Amanda Walker is the Project Manager and State of Maine ESAR-VHP Coordinator, located at the Southern Maine Regional Resource Center for Public Health Emergency Preparedness at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
In this role, Amanda provides leadership and management in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Maine's Emergency System for the Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP). She leads a statewide Advisory Group to assist in the planning for and building of individual and organizational awareness, support, and maintenance for Maine's ESAR-VHP program, and coordinates ESAR-VHP program activities with participating hospitals, state licensing and public health agencies, emergency management agencies, and their related staff in credentialing, clinical administrative and informatics areas.
Prior to this position, Amanda served as SMRRC Research Associate. In this role, Amanda was responsible for coordinating and managing the research and data collection activities for the Center. Amanda also participated in and led several other SMRRC activities including response planning, drill and exercise evaluation, and equipment distribution and training coordination.
In past years, Amanda has served as an intern to U.S. Senator Susan M. Collins in the Bangor, Maine and Washington, D.C. offices. While in Washington, Amanda worked in the Senator’s press office and with the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
Amanda is holds a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. She is a graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Communications, and is also a graduate of the Honors College at the University of Maine, completing a senior honors thesis titled Representing Maine – A Study of Maine Women in Politics.
Amanda enjoys spending time at her family’s summer home on Schoodic Lake, reading, and cheering for the University of Maine Black Bears and Boston Red Sox. Amanda’s latest endeavor is skydiving, recently completing her first jump from 10,000 feet.
